As a commercial photographer, I really love doing editorial and commercial photography work for magazines across North Carolina. I've worked with several including Raleigh's Midtown Magazine, 5 West Magazine out of Cary, and of course the beloved Our State Magazine - the official magazine of North Carolina!
All of these publications are fantastic, and I truly enjoy collaborating with them. They have provided me with opportunities I wouldn't typically have, such as meeting influential community figures or tasting a unique dish at a renowned restaurant. Every assignment offers something new and exciting, allowing me to be creative as I help local small businesses create on brand photos for their marketing.

The Winter issue of 5 West Magazine just hit stands so I'm excited to finally share my commercial branding shoot I did with La Farm Bakery at Whole Foods in Apex, NC. It was so much fun!
A few months ago I learned about the wonderful partnership that formed between Whole Foods and La Farm Bakery. I immediately thought it was a really great collaboration as they both sell mouthwatering breads and freshly baked goods. So when I got the assignment to take branding photos for the Winter article I was absolutely thrilled!
I've known about La Farm Bakery and it's awesomeness since my college days. I went to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and earned my B.S. degree in Food & Nutrition there in 2007.
In one of our food management classes, we traveled to Cary to do a tour at La Farm Bakery. It was an awesome field trip. We got an inside look at the French bakery facility and watched them make blueberry scones from scratch. We got to eat the scones and they were super delicious. It was overall a really memorable experience and loved everything about the food and the energy there at La Farm.
Photos of Lionel Vatinet - A World Renowned Master Bread Maker
La Farm Bakery was started by French bread master, Lionel Vatinet in 1999. He is one of the most recognized and respected bread makers in America! I am absolutely honored to have had the chance to photograph such a talented artist.
He was trained in France, has been a consultant for Panera Bread, coached the American team to a first place win in the World Cup of Baking, and has been featured in Food & Wine, The Oprah Magazine and Garden & Gun.
What a nice man! Gracious, humble, and talented. And his French accent is so lovely. He was so wonderful and pleasant to work with and is extremely passionate about his work..
Post-Shoot Coffee + Pastries! Perks of Being a Brand Photographer
Once the shoot was over, Matt and I got to enjoy some of the delicious bakery menu items. There is so much variety among the products they serve: artisinal breads, weekend baked goods, full service coffee, and all the sandwiches and soups you can imagine in the cafe. I love that there is a French feel to the menu as you can find many things you would see at a little corner bistro in Paris.
Matt got to eat this yummy blueberry filled pastry after I photographed it and Lionel made me a Croque-Monsieur from scratch to eat for lunch as a thank you gesture for taking the photos. How awesome is that?
Matt and I sat at a table in the cafe with some piping hot coffee and a perfect vanilla latte and went to town. The rich savory flavors combined with homemade fresh bread was so yummy. I couldn't even eat it all. So filling and delicious! The cafe was absolutely packed all morning.
It's very obvious how much the local community loves La Farm and is very excited and supportive of this partnership with Whole Foods.
The new bakery at Whole Foods uses centuries old baking techniques and traditions and features a European-style hearth oven on hand which can make more than 15 different styles of bread. They are hand-crafted, many by Lionel himself, and prepped for 3 days before serving to the public. With out a doubt you can tell that there is a lot of heart and soul that goes into making the products at La Farm Bakery.
What a great experience! I love being a photographer, especially a commercial photographer. Working with small mom and pop shops, creative entrepreneurs, and large scale business is such a passion of mine. It brings me so much joy to network and create awesome images for local businesses and brands all across North Carolina.
