Charlotte Family Photography Session at Freedom Park
Last fall, I had a really adorable Charlotte family photography session at Freedom Park—one of Charlotte’s crown jewels and an absolute dream for fall photos. I’ve shot here more times than I can count, and it never disappoints. On this particular afternoon, the light was golden, the air had that first hint of crispness, and the trees were just starting to show off their fall colors.
The Nagaraja family session was one of my fall favorites. They showed up looking stylish and ready for photos… well, most of them did. Their sweet daughter arrived firmly attached to Mom and made it very clear that Dad was not on her approved list at that moment. Totally normal toddler behavior, and absolutely nothing to stress about. When a toddler sets the vibe, I roll with it. No forcing, no fretting—just following their energy and saving my secret tricks for later.
We started with Mom-and-daughter poses, which made her feel safe and happy. As the session went on and she got a little wiggly, I shifted gears and captured some beautiful couple shots of Mom and Dad while she explored. By then she had warmed up, so I pulled out my trusty bubbles (a toddler crowd favorite), and suddenly we were back in business with lots of smiles and giggles. We grabbed sweet family moments on the grass, playful shots of her and Mom, and some adorable leaf-tossing fun. And we finally captured some great photos of her and Dad - WIN!
We attempted a few standing family photos at the end of the session… and that’s when the comedy show began. The little girl started dramatically falling backward like a tiny stunt performer. The parents and I were laughing so hard because it was the perfect reminder that you can plan a session all you want, but if a toddler is involved, things will get wild and crazy!
And honestly? Those silly falling-back photos—paired with Mom’s genuine laughter—ended up being some of my absolute favorites. They captured this season of their life perfectly: real, joyful, unpredictable, and full of memories they’ll look back on with big smiles.
