It’s no surprise that Spring is a very popular season for beautiful family photos. The world is blooming again, the days feel hopeful, and everyone’s energy starts to lift after a long winter. Plus, the busy summer rush hasn’t kicked in yet! Here are my 6 favorite reasons why spring makes the perfect season for family photos around Charlotte,
Why Spring is the Perfect Season for Family Photos Around Charlotte
1. Session Availability
Winter is a slow season for most photographers, which means spring opens up with plenty of availability and a whole lot of creative energy ready to burst. Everyone’s itching to get outside again—your photographer included! If you’re hoping for a specific bloom like cherry blossoms, tulips, or roses, reach out a month or so in advance so you can book the perfect date while the flowers are still in bloom.

2. Colorful Spring Blooms
Fields of flowers. Trees exploding with color. Soft petals drifting through the air. Spring is basically a built‑in photo backdrop that Mother Nature designed just for you. .
In the Charlotte area, tulips and cherry blossoms usually bloom from early March to mid-April, roses bloom from mid-April through all of May, and poppies bloom from late April to early May — all of these beautiful flowers are absolutely magical for family portraits.
3. Vast Flower Fields
The Charlotte area has a lot of really beautiful flower fields at various local farms. Fields of red poppies, tulips, larkspur, and more. Many of the farms have a U-Pick experience where you can visit the farm, have a picnic, pick flowers, and take them home. Family photography sessions are also allowed at a lot of the farms but some do have very strict photography policies and require additional fees to take pictures.
4. Earlier Sessions (and Earlier Bedtimes!)
Spring is the perfect time to take family photos if your children have earlier bedtimes. Golden hour still happens early enough that you can enjoy dreamy, glowy light without pushing bedtime. Spring sessions often start around 5–5:30 p.m. while summer sessions can often start as late as 7:00 p.m. which means, in the Spring time, you can wrap up before dinner and still get that perfect sunset glow.

5. Spring Outfits
Spring is made for soft, romantic photos, and the season really brings that timeless look to life. Flowing dresses, airy linens, and delicate floral touches feel completely at home this time of year. Light neutrals and gentle pastels always photograph beautifully, giving your photos a fresh, dreamy vibe. And with the weather warming up—but not yet hot—you can wear breezy layers without worrying about overheating or looking shiny in your photos.
6. Smaller Crowds
Before the summer tourist season begins, popular photography locations are more peaceful, serene, and much simpler to appreciate. You’ll experience more space, fewer spectators, and often lower entrance fees.
Time to break out the sandals - or go barefoot!
After months of chilly weather, spring feels like a deep breath of fresh air. It’s the perfect moment to capture soft, joy‑filled, light‑soaked portraits surrounded by blooms you won’t see any other time of year. Dust off those sandals, slip into your favorite floral prints, and soak up the magic before it fades.
