As a Charlotte family photographer, I take great joy helping families capture their legacy and preserve the memories of their current, yet fleeting, moments in life. This includes what they enjoy doing together, the energy and personality of their children, the bonds among family members, and the fun they share. It's an incredibly rewarding career and I'm so thankful I get to do this meaningful work.
This fall I had the honor of meeting this adorable family at Freedom Park in Charlotte, NC for a fun fall family photo session. Main goal for the session: get gorgeous photos for their Christmas cards. Mission accomplished! They were amazing clients!
The weather was absolutely perfect and the color had just started to pop. This was the last weekend of October so a few weeks before peek color but nonetheless I found some great spots with lots of fall vibes.

Location & Light:
If you haven't been to Freedom Park you have to stop by for a visit. It's gorgeous. In other blog posts I've referred to it as Charlotte's mini central park. I've done so many family sessions here and I always come away with stunning images that my clients LOVE.
It's got a cobblestone bridge, lake with ducks and geese, walking trails, lots of flowers and blooms in the warmer months, a river with rocks, and open grassy spaces. I LOVE it for family sessions. It can get crowded sometimes so it's important to plan ahead.
We had amazing light that filtered through the trees and provided a beautiful backlit glow in lots of the photos by the bridge and by the lake. Towards the end we moved to a shaded area up the hill which had lots of fall leaves scattered on the ground. By this point the kids were ready to let loose so it was the perfect ending spot. The kids loved it and were able to finally run around and be super playful which made for stunning candid photos showcasing their cute personalities.
Wardrobe Details:
The family dressed really simple yet cohesive. They combined a nice autumn color palette of warm browns and creams, coupled with yellow and burgundy. I LOVED their outfits. Simple and comfy. Comfort is SO key especially when it comes to your family photos.
Favorite Moments:
The children smiling happily for all the shots - seriously they were a DREAM to work with!
Roman the sweet toddler pointing and smiling candidly when he heard me squeak my tiger stuffed animal.
Family moment by the lake tickling Roman and he gave the biggest belly laugh.
Fun and joyfilled photos of the children tossing the leaves into the air.
Capturing special photos of just Jason and Kyle - I always get couples photos of the parents together. It's SO important and I always make it a priority at my sessions.
Getting bit by fire ants all over my torso and ankles at the very end of the shoot. It was SO painful but it was memorable and worth getting those epic shots of Breton laying in the leaves on his belly. Me and fire ants have a history. I've been bit by ants at photoshoots so many times!
