Fall is a magical time to capture family memories, especially at a place as scenic as Jetton Park in Cornelius, NC. As a Lake Norman family photographer, I find this park offers everything needed for a perfect photo session: a sandy beach by the water, walking trails lined with tall trees that turn yellow in autumn, and vast open grassy spaces.
This fall I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet family of three at the lake and it was a blast. The photos came out so beautiful!

Before every session, I send a super short questionnaire to my families to learn about them especially the kids. For this session, I learned that Silas, the little boy, was a huge Thomas the Train fan. Before the session started, I popped out my sons Thomas The Train toy that I brought along to warm him up. The moment Silas saw it, his eyes lit up, and he got so excited. It was so cute!
Sometimes kids can take a while to warm up to a photographer, so bringing along a toy or stuffed animal can help them get comfortable and leading to more genuine smiles and candid moments. It was also a great toy for him to play with while I captured portraits of Katie and Lathan.
I believe it’s important to photograph every member of the family, especially portraits of the parents alone. Often, parents focus so much on their children that they forget to capture their own relationship. I know this from personal experience. Since having Brody, we forget to get photos of just us sometimes. During this session, I made sure to take photos of Mom and Dad together, highlighting the love that started their family.
I also took individual photos of Silas, capturing his cute personality. The mix of candid and posed shots gave the family a well-rounded collection of memories to cherish forever.
