As a Charlotte, NC family portrait photographer, one of the most fulfilling parts of my job is capturing stunning family moments between family members, especially a mother and her child.
Recently, I had the joy of photographing a delightful mother and daughter session with Christa and her sweet daughter, Olivia. This session was filled with warmth and laughter, creating unforgettable memories in a beautiful local park in Springtime.
Spring Family Portraits Charlotte NC
When planning the session, Christa shared her interest in taking the photos at a more natural setting that would be perfect for a busy and active toddler. We selected a nearby park in Charlotte known for its big green fields and fun playground. The park provided not only a stunning backdrop but also a playground for Olivia's imagination and personality to soar. We captured so many authentic moments between Christa and Olivia, resulting in a collection of beautiful candid moments and cute portraits.
Playful Family Photos on the Playground
We captured some wonderful photos on the playground including some of Olivia on the swing and Christa giving it a push. We also took shots of Olivia sliding down the slide, sitting on the jungle gym, and playing in the sandbox. In between these moments, we also got some great portraits of both of them together.
The main approach is to let them play freely and take pictures as they naturally engage with their surroundings.
Charlotte Family Photos in Wildflower Field
A particularly adorable moment happened when Olivia discovered a patch of wildflowers. Filled with wide-eyed amazement, she picked the flowers, smelled the petals, and let out a hearty belly laugh, which I managed to capture on camera. It's such a cute photo! As a Charlotte family portrait photographer, it’s moments like these that remind me why I love this work so much.
Outfit Changes To Add Variety in Family Portraits
To enhance the session, Christa came prepared with multiple outfit changes for Olivia. I always recommend families bring different outfits to add variety to their photos such as pants and shirts, dresses, cute shoes, and accessories. Props are also super fun and give life to your photos.
This approach works exceptionally well for capturing different moods and styles and gives each client a lot of variety in their final gallery.
One standout was Olivia's bright yellow dress. Against the lush green backdrop with her blonde hair, the vivid colors looked amazing on camera. I also love the photos of her in the overalls as I'm a huge overall-loving mama myself. They are timeless and look great in photos.
