As a Charlotte portrait photographer, few experiences bring me as much joy as documenting family memories and that includes prom night for local high school seniors and their families. This Spring, I had the pleasure of capturing a stunning senior prom photoshoot at the beautiful Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, NC. The weather was perfect!

The sweet seniors that I worked with were so excited about prom. You could feel the combination of joy and nerves in the air as they posed for photos. It's not easy being on camera but they were so good at posing and being open to my creative direction. I go all out with every single session I do. I love posing my clients and helping them look AMAZING on camera. That's my specialty!

Knowing that I was preserving these fleeting moments for them and their families was so rewarding. I remember my own senior prom back in 2003. Getting photos, going out to dinner, dancing the night away, and then the after party. It was such a blast.

A Stunning Setting Close to Charlotte

The Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens offers a breathtaking landscape with lush greenery, vibrant blooms, and charming pathways. It's a must-see if you visit or live in the Charlotte area.

One of the standout features I utilized during the photoshoot was the pergola, gracefully adorned with hanging lights and green ivy. This romantic setting created extraordinary opportunities for beautiful portrait photos.

During the golden hour, I utilized my 70-200 mm zoom lens (heavy but amazing for portraits!) allowing me to create images with a soft and creamy background. I LOVE the way they came out.

The Joy of Parenthood

As I photographed the couple, I noticed their parents capturing their own photos and videos from behind me on their phones.

I could hear the parents laughing and sharing stories with each other while watching their kids pose for photos looking amazing in their formal prom attire. It reminded me of my own experiences watching my son grow up. Time really does go by so fast and before you know it, in the blink of an eye your children are going to prom, graduating high school, and leaving the house to start the next chapter of their life.

I love capturing these fleeting moments for my clients.

During the photoshoot, I focused not only on the traditional posed shots but also on candid moments that revealed the couple’s personalities and friendship.

The soft golden light added a unique dimension, enhancing their attire, including the beautiful sparkles on her green dress, and giving each image an almost dreamlike quality.
